Virtual Sailing

Virtual Sailing has grown over the last year with the more powerful  computers and faster internet connection

At the moment there are a handful of Virtual Sailing site, or you may call them Sailing simulators. All of them are on-line played on the internet. Some of them have large communities and active forums with possibilities to organize your own teams and even to arrange your own Sailing race, or Cruises.

To name a few:

Virtual Regatta(VR), which is now the official Game playing the VendeeGlobe 2012.

Note: I just heard 3Nov. that Many Players and United Games (UG) have joined in the VR player.

- LiveSkipper (LS), which is IMHO the most advanced virtual player, with not the largest of communities.

LS is offering an alternative "Sail the Globe" Sailing event.

- Sailonline(SOL), which is known for its very quick player refresh times.

Just now, 6th November, SOL has announced an alternative global sailing event, SOL's Global Challenge 2012-2013. This will be in some different legs combining the sail the globe.

- VolvoOceanRaceGame(VORG), which is expected to restart again in 2014.

I played the 3 last virtual sailing players and now start in VR. In my opinion the best Sailing Simulator is LiveSkipper, followed by Sailonline. Than VolvoOceanRaceGame , while VR is an older generation player, comparable with the former VORG 2008 player.

See my report on the comparison of Sailing Simulators,     or you may try them all out to find it out for yourself.
